Hello and welcome to my first blog post!

I will admit, initially I wasn’t very keen on this class and saw it as something intimidating that I would have to get through. However, in our first week, this has quickly become one of the most interesting and relevant classes that I get to take. I’m very excited to see what kinds of things I will learn in this course, as I will definitely learn a lot.
I watched the movie Most Likely To Succeed that we were asked to watch and it really opened my eyes as to how important technology and innovative thinking is to the classroom and just how many students can become engaged by different modes of learning. The film got me excited to use creative modes in my own future classroom and really got me thinking about what it means to teach. I found myself thinking “wow, can teaching really be this way?” throughout the film. Many of my high school classes consisted of taking notes and filling out worksheets, but this film got me excited to move past some traditional methods and to fully engage students and get them excited about the curriculum.
The free inquiry project has got me excited as well. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to delve into a hobby of mine and I am so glad that we’ve been provided a space to learn about something we are passionate about. I want to explore my passion for baking and look at learning about cake decorating. In thinking of this, I was wandering around Indigo and picked up a book about styling and decorating cakes entitled “Layered” by Tessa Huff. The cover of the book is the photo attached to this post because I found the title fitting to my journey in the Teacher Education program. The mix of classes I have will provide me with a very layered foundation on which to pursue my teaching goals and I’m so excited to get started!
